NP 261 NP263 Transfer Case Rebuild Kits and Parts

In 1999 NVG introduced the NP261/NP263 transfer case incorporated into the General Motors Chevrolet 1500, 2500, Suburban, Sierra and Silverado vehicles. The NP261/NP263 is a part time, two-speed manual transfer case, the NP261/NP263 is delivered in two different configurations light and heavy duty, manual mode shift utilizing dual cone synchronizer combine with advanced designed friction reducing parts integrated with a fine pitch chain, sprockets and advanced case material provide quiet operation and light weight. Part-Time 4WD Operation, the vehicle operates normally in 2WD. The driver must shift into 4WD. "Shift-On-The-Move" allows shifting into 4WD without stopping. A cross reference table is provide to assist you in identification of your transfer case.  

The NP261 & NP263 has a design problem, the pump can wear out the case causing premiture failure and leaking.   The problem with merely replacing the case is it won’t solve the problem.  Magnesium cases are soft; aluminum pumps are harder.  The problem leak will come back and ruin your day.  Maybe on someone else’s watch, but surely you pride yourself in fixing problems.  camra.jpg Fix a factory defect, before problems arise we recommened our Case Saver part number MW52007.  You need to install this part before the oil pump causes your transfer case damage.

 1) Clean case and repair damage with an   

   epoxy or you may choose to have welded

 2) Place BRNY protector in the pump pocket

 3) Continue the rebuild knowing it’s fixed
